About the foundation
A small Chiang Mai foundation working — patiently, locally and without fuss — for a culture of peace.
Why we exist
The Peace Culture Foundation was established in 2016 in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It is our mission to advocate peace and prevent violence through aikido training and other related activities — community service projects, research, and training workshops for children, youth, families, schools and the public.
We believe peace is something people learn and practise, not something they are simply given. So we begin with everyday relationships — between a teacher and a student, a parent and a child, neighbours in a community — and we help make those relationships more respectful, more confident and free from violence.
Discipline with empathy. Guide with love. Never with violence.
Mission & values
Everything we do comes back to one idea: that people can treat one another with respect, kindness and non-violence — and that this can be taught, modelled and passed on.
- Non-violence. We help people be assertive, not aggressive — in the dojo, the classroom and the home.
- Prevention. We work to stop harm before it begins, especially harm to children.
- Empathy. We guide and discipline with understanding rather than fear or punishment.
- Community. We do this work alongside local schools, families and partners — never alone.
What that looks like
Our work runs across six connected areas, each with its own page:
